Cardiff Arena Secures Final Approval

Plans for Cardiff’s highly anticipated 16,500-capacity indoor arena have reached a major milestone, with Cardiff Council and the consortium of Live Nation and Robertson Property announcing financial close on the project.

Designed for music, with world-class acoustics and sight lines, the arena is expected to attract more than one million visitors annually, create over 1,000 jobs, and deliver a significant boost to Cardiff Bay’s regeneration. Fans attending UK arena shows typically spend between £100–£150 in the local economy, meaning the venue will generate substantial benefits for surrounding businesses.

Due to open in 2028, the project will place a strong focus on sustainability, social value and local employment, ensuring long-term benefits for the community.

Cardiff Council Leader, Cllr Huw Thomas, said:

“This arena will transform Cardiff’s visitor economy in a way nothing has since the stadium opened in 1999. It is the cornerstone of our Music City strategy, supporting every part of Cardiff’s music ecosystem while driving economic growth and social value.”

Graham Walters, SVP Arena & Venue Development at Live Nation, described the project as “a landmark” that will meet clear consumer demand for live entertainment. Elliot Robertson, CEO of Robertson Group, called it “a catalyst for growth” that will solidify Cardiff’s position as a cultural and creative hub.
