CLIENT: Mayor of London

Sound Diplomacy has been working with the Greater London Authority (GLA) since 2016, with the objective of increasing London’s profile as a global music city.

We were instrumental in the development of the Mayor of London’s Music Board and the Night Time Commission, and are the acting Secretariat of the London Music Board.

The London Music Board’s original mission, to reverse the rate of grassroots music venue closures, is being achieved. The board now has an expanded remit that includes young people and music education, talent and communities and music tourism. We continue to steer the board’s work by providing a strong link with London’s music ecosystem and a understanding of the complex web of local and national administrative bodies.

To date, our work with the GLA has also seen the appointment of London’s first Night Czar to champion the city’s night time economy and culture. We assisted in the development of the role, and have supported the Night Czar by providing policy support and producing a series of Night Surgeries on her behalf. We also lobbied for, and are project managing, the delivery of a Mayor-led summer 2018 music campaign, which will be the first of its kind in the city, and a flagship moment for music in London.

More information on the work to date and the progress update on the Rescue Plan for London’s Grassroots Music Venues can be accessed on the right.

London’s buzzing live music scene is world-renowned, having produced artists from Adele to Ed Sheeran, The Clash to The Rolling Stones. Grassroots venues are the foundation of our successful music industry. We’ve taken positive steps to address some of the challenges facing grassroots music venues, but there’s still much to be done.
